# A terrible disclosure has just been made
I've been turned down for Pirates of Penzance at the Arts Theatre next term. Can anyone recommend any other interesting singing opportunities for a tenor after Christmas? They needn't actually be on stage, but bonus points if they're G&S or similar, because otherwise, given that three weeks at Minack would be rather too many days of holiday, my next G&S show will be this time next year. :-(

There're plenty of college choirs around that welcome non-students, though I don't know what they think of Grown-Ups who aren't alumni :p Might be worth a try? I gather they tend to rehearse at anti-social times, though.

*nod* Wolfson's been suggested, but they meet on Monday nights, which usually seem to fill up for me (I haven't been to pizza/post-pizza for months). Still, probably worth investigating.

Aw :(

Presumably you're getting the G&S society mailings forwarded from other musical societies looking for singers?

I can also suggest Chesterton Choral Society. It's a fun local choir who do a concert at the end of each term. They are always looking for tenors and basses, so would welcome you with open arms. It's a town choir rather than a student one, so the age range is a bit high - well, quite a lot high - but there are a few of us younger members. I sang with them for all three terms last academic year, didn't this term mainly due to NaNoWriMo, but will probably be in it again next term; Alex also sang with them one term last year. They do a mixture of stuff, but last term they did four G&S songs, as well as material from other musicals such as Phantom of the Opera.

(Your icon is spectacularly appropriate for this particular post - pirates and refusal.)

We could do a G&S singthrough.

I'm sorry to hear that. I can't really suggest any opportunities in the Cambridge environs, though. :-/ OTOH, if you *do* get involved in a Pirates singthrough, let me know if there's space for me?
